I was enjoying the mountains off in the distance on my drive home and that got me musing on mountain climbing, dieting and successful weight loss. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="font-family: arial;" class="MsoNormal"&gt; &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;p style="font-family: arial;" class="MsoNormal"&gt;There are a ton of similarities; here are just a few:&lt;/p&gt;  &lt;ul style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Before taking on any major undertaking, you need to know your base (where you are starting from) and your summit (where you are going to end up at the top)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Then you can determine the best way on how to get from point A to point B&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Never climb alone&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;There will be obstacles and setbacks to overcome&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Beyond this, you just need good old fashioned hard work and perseverance&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;font-family:arial;" &gt;Every Pound Has Story&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Your base? It includes a whole lot more than just your starting weight. Your starting point includes at least the following:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Your reasons- why are you wanting to lose the fat?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Your physical health&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Why you gained the weight&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; How you feel about yourself&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Your summit?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol style="font-family: arial;"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Your final goal weight&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;How you will feel about yourself and life on top of your mountain&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;What will you see from that vantage point&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Outside support and internal hard work&lt;/span&gt; are what get you from your base to your summit.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-family:arial;"&gt;Your fat loss journey (climb) must have the above key components. Researchers put together &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;a trial involving obese people aged 55 to  75 who were on a diet.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p&gt;One group drank &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;two cups of water before their meals&lt;/span&gt;, and the other  group did not.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(204, 153, 51);"&gt;RESULTS&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Over a 12-week period, the people drinking water lost about 15 and a  half pounds, while the other group lost about 11 pounds.&lt;/p&gt;    &lt;p&gt;The study says the participants were followed up for another year  as they continued their weight-loss efforts to see if they could kept  the pounds off.&lt;/p&gt;    The group drinking water appeared to do a little bit better.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sounds interesting?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;See for yourself &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;exactly why&lt;/span&gt; your body uses water to help you lose the fat and keep the pounds off forever.: &lt;a href="http://yourlastdiet.blogspot.com/2010/02/9-water-weight-loss-laws-to-live-by.html"&gt;9 Water Weight Loss Laws to Live By&lt;/a&gt; . We've also took an honest look in Part 2 at the Misinformation we've been fed (No pun intended), now we get serious...dead serious because if we don't take this seriously then we're dead...let me explain&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It is time to take the lid off one of the most serious yet common issues surrounding our repeated weight gain and weight loss...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold; font-style: italic;"&gt;"Our Compulsions!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Talk about opening a can of worms but...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If we are truly going to be low-carb lifers and loving it and meaning what we say about &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;putting away the paunch&lt;/span&gt; forever, &lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;our compulsions must&lt;/span&gt; be addressed...yes?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Did you catch those 3 highlighted key words?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;OUR&lt;/span&gt;- if we don't admit we have a problem, if we blame someone else for our problem and we don't own the problem, then again, nothing happens...pretty self evident!&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;COMPULSIONS- &lt;/span&gt;yeah, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;&lt;/span&gt;I know it's ugly but if this is the real issue underneath and behind our gaining back the weight, shouldn't we look at it honestly openly?&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;MUST&lt;/span&gt;- &lt;span style="font-weight: normal;"&gt;small word huge concept...if we do nothing, nothing happens or changes...OK, that's also ridiculously obvious but oh so important!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;Sure we've been Misinformed, and obviously,  Motivation and Commitment isn't all there is to long term success, then could it be that &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;we have a compulsion around food?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'm just asking!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And only you will know in your knower if it's possibly true. And if that lil' voice inside your head is nodding up and down then what's next? Really!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;How will you cope with your compulsions?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ol&gt;&lt;li&gt;Recognize you have them&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Stop thinking you can handle them yourself&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Accept that you need outside help&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Take action now! (Jed Clampettism)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Everyone has their reasons for wanting to lose weight...yes? You are motivated! 10 out of 10! Then comes the hard part, the day in and day out following the diet protocol to make it happen.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And that's not the end of it either.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There is the 24/7/365 living a new lifestyle to keep those pounds off forever.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Seems obvious to me that "motivation" comes first to make sure you actually get started on a diet, but it also must be accompanied by a "I am a marine" type of commitment that is fired up daily to make sure it is the last diet you ever do.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;One Real-Life Story Of Commitment&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ever been rock repelling?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I have and I had my commitment seriously challenged one scary day in the Rockies. Rock repelling was a required part of a specialized course at University.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The adventure found us at the top of a 100'+, sheer cliff in the Canadian Rockies. I'm not sure exactly where as I have erased most of this event from my memory.  We have all the gear, all the safety precautions have been routinely gone over and the moment of truth was at hand.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I'd watched several others in my class go before me but now it was my turn. I walked up to the edge and looked down at what can only be called the "colossal chasm of certain and painful death."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Big mistake!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Have I already said, "I am afraid of heights?" Seriously...it's true.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So...I have all the safety gear on; I have the rope threaded though my legs and up over my left shoulder  and down my back. I have one hand grasping the rope in front and one hand grasping the rope behind my back to control the speed of descent. Descent...was I crazy? The rope is attached to a tree and secured by 4 instructors.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;By now you understand that you must slowly back yourself up onto the ledge so that you have your toes on the edge and you then must lean back 90 degrees while holding onto the rope and slowing releasing yourself  to repel backwards and then gaining control again and then pushing off with your legs and alternatively releasing and suspending yourself in mid air all the way down the cliff.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Critical moment for me?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I am on the ledge with my back towards a 100'+ sheer cliff and everyone's cheering and encouraging me, saying, "You can do it!...come on!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;All the rah-rah wasn't helping but then... &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The lead instructor says, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Bob...commit Yourself!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;That's when I had a revelation that I was motivated to do this but was I truly and for real committed to doing this. BTW...I also saw my life flash before my eyes in slow motion.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Commitment is...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Turning yourself over, so there's no turning back!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There you have it. There's the difference between motivation and commitment!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's the same as that old riddle of,  "Who was more committed in providing the breakfast of bacon and eggs?"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The chicken or the pig?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The story speak for themselves as they relate to fat loss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It takes motivation to get started on any diet. No problem! Been There. Done That. Got the T-shirt...yes?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;For me it was 40 lbs later. For many of our clients it's been anywhere from 15- 75 lbs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;BUT...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Then what?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What's the "Git 'r' done" goal now?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's the answer, &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;"Dance with the one who brought ya!"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;What I mean by that is we shed the fat and pounds and gained our health back by eating low-carb and being sure to eat adequate quality protein everyday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And...these are &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;the 2 simple keys to the lifestyle change&lt;/span&gt; you are trying to create. And I do mean create. In any kind of change, but especially life transformation, it is vital to know what you are aiming for. What and who you are trying to become and that you are in a change process that will have some ups and downs.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's called&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt; the Learning Curve&lt;/span&gt;.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;You see we left behind the old life of indulgences and uncontrolled choices and portions to learning a new way of living. Many of you know I had my own image consulting business years ago in Red Deer. Oh, Really?</title><content type='html'>Interesting phone conversation today and &lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;time for me to rant.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I was introducing a possible new clinic owner to the business side of Ideal Protein. Her reply stunned me:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"&gt;"I'm not really into weight loss and don't really believe in it."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Can you believe that?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Frankly, I was at a loss for words.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Apparently, she personally, has never truly felt what it's like to carry around extra pounds or the terrible health side effects of obesity like diabetes, heart disease, high cholesterol and high blood pressure and MORE.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Apparently, she has never sat down and empathized with a friend or family member who has come to the place where enough is enough- they are sick and tired of all the challenges, emotionally, and physically, that are, for them,  just "normal!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And just what are the those numbers again in Canada?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:180%;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;What are the Canadian #'s?&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;4 million &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;obese Canadians&lt;/span&gt; and&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;8 million more who are just &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;overweight&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;And just so we're clear, everyone of those people is someone's friend or family member too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;I know for a fact she has never heard my story or yours &lt;/span&gt;about how we felt hopeless about ever being able to lose the extra fat again, ever. Yet here we are weeks and months later- healthier, more hopeful than ever, and guided by a passion to help others receive the same results we did.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);font-size:180%;" &gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Big IF!&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I guess &lt;span style="font-size:180%;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold; color: rgb(255, 0, 0);"&gt;if&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt; I had anything in common with this owner, it was that, "I'm not really into weight loss either. Neither did we have any idea how Ideal Protein would completely revolutionize our lives. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ok. I admit it! I'm a romantic at heart.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;It's Christmas and I've been reflecting. I have said it before, "We didn't find Ideal Protein; it found us." We weren't looking for another diet plan.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;We had actually totally given up&lt;/span&gt; on our weight loss dreams.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I mean what else could we do after losing 80+ pounds between us.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Now almost a year later, our entire family&lt;/span&gt; has also been totally transformed. In fact, be sure to skip meals regularly. If you have to eat something for breakfast, make sure it has the words “Swiss Double Mocha” or “creme filling” listed as the first ingredients. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;    &lt;p&gt;Don’t plan ahead or prepare your food in advance. It is much more efficient to go down the block and grab a double cheeseburger and a large order of fries than to bring a healthy zip lock bag of fresh vegetables and another of lean protein for lunch. If you start getting tired, just drink another one and don't worry about drinking enough water throughout the day. &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;    &lt;p&gt;If you absolutely are convinced you need to eat vegetables, make sure you eat corn and potatoes, and don’t skimp on the butter. Better yet, stick with onion rings and french fries. You can’t be too careful! &lt;/p&gt;  &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;    &lt;p&gt;Eat a big supper, preferably pasta or pizza. NOT!</title><content type='html'>Here's a "cannon shot over the bow" email from a busy executive, Stefan, who just started our IP protocol this week. Talk about a "Get 'R' Done" attitude.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;em&gt;"Since we all know I have no will power, I am out of social circulation for the next 6 weeks.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;No more dinners, going out for drinks, movies, or anything.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;If you guys want to go out for a run or hike, or a walk, or even a quick espresso someplace, let me know, but otherwise, &lt;strong&gt;consider me out of the picture&lt;/strong&gt;. This program I am on is directed by a doctor, and is very aggressive, and involves complete (as in 100%) withdrawal from absolutely all carbs and fats for a solid 3 to 4 weeks to force a modulation and reset of insulin production from my pancreas. Even one cookie, and I need to start all over again.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;So every time we get together and have popcorn or whatever, I start all over. One of our drinking/eating binges is actually dangerous. "I love to CHEAT!"</title><content type='html'>Cheating is fun!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;And&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Legal!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In fact, it is mandatory when you reach Phase 4 on your Ideal Protein Diet. Know why? Because without pleasure, we are destined to fail in our weight loss goals.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;One of the most important dietetic principles &lt;/span&gt;is eating for pleasure. It is not just a dietetic reality, either, it is true for all aspects of our lives. Each of us are inwardly motivated by both pleasure and pain.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Pain avoidance of course.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;On Phase 4 , a cheat day is mandatory so we can rediscover the pleasure of eating by giving each other permission to have a totally fun food day.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eat what you want, when you want, all you want.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, be careful not to turn your one cheat day into a cheat week. That would just be foolish and besides, we are completely different people now that we've reached Phase 4 anyway...yes?&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Celebrate and enjoy the pleasure of eating really good food&lt;/span&gt;  with really nice people. And yes! I do mean you!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Taste it! Savor it! Smell it! Prolong the whole experience and relax. Don't feel guilty for even a milli second. And don't worry! You won't gain back all your weight. Just practice Phase 1 principles the next day. Easy, peasy. I do it every week without fail and I am still at my goal weight after 6 months of maintenance eating.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Eating for fun is...FUN!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;PS...&lt;br /&gt;I know it is hard for some of you to really let go in this area and trust that your body, and specifically, your pancreas. Trust me, it will easily respond to a weekly cheat day. Realize that your pancreas has been re-trained and it would take a whole lot more than one day to pack back on all those pounds you so diligently worked at losing.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Whisper this to your self right now. (40+ lbs)&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I replied with, "Why?" to which he said, "Because I'm a changed man! I can never go back to eating the way I used to."&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;This is the same guy who initially said, "I like being the fat guy and I like my beer, pizza and nachos!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Well, I almost laughed out loud, but I knew he was dead serious. At the same time, I was so proud of him and absolutely loved his new insight, "I'm a change man!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's what we can all learn about dietetics, change and weight loss.  Each of us is on this change continuum. We are &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;moving from mindless eating to mindful eating. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Here's how it works:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Step 1- Unconscious incompetence&lt;/span&gt;- we eat what we want, how much we want, when we want without a lot of thought.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Step 2- Conscious incompetence&lt;/span&gt;- we recognize that we don't know what to do lose the fat anymore and even if we did we feel somewhat powerless to do it.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Step 3- Conscious competence&lt;/span&gt;-  we all started losing fat on Ideal Protein; we also learned or are still learning how to make good choices and combinations of our daily eating until eventually, we know exactly what to do to eat healthy and to drop the lbs anytime we want if needed.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Step 4- Unconscious competence&lt;/span&gt;- this is the new lifestyle change we all aspire to. Now we are mindful of our eating and we've graduated to living healthy by making wise eating choices and yes, even celebrating our relationship with food.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Like my son, we have all become changed people. Which is More Important?</title><content type='html'>I always ask every new Ideal Protein client this question:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 153);"&gt;"What has brought you here today?"&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;100% of the time, they will tell me they want to feel better or they are worried about their health- either diabetes, high cholesterol, tiredness, hormonal imbalance, etc. Of course, they also say I'm sick and tied of being fat; I need to lose 30, 40, or 60 lbs&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just yesterday, a young woman in her 30's, with tears in her eyes answered my question, "I'm sick and tired of being fat!"&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now there's an emotionally charged statement! &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Imagine asking someone, "Are you sick and tired of being fat?"  You better brace yourself for a certain reaction.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Truth is,  we all &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;know intuitively and feel&lt;/span&gt; &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;deeply&lt;/span&gt; that our fat really is making us sick and tired.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Research has shown that as weight increases to reach the levels referred to as "overweight" and "obesity," (*according to a person's BMI) &lt;span style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;the risks for the following conditions also increases:&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul class="WHBulletsOneLevel"&gt;&lt;li&gt;Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Hypertension (high blood pressure)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of     triglycerides) &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Stroke &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Liver and Gallbladder disease &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sleep apnea and respiratory problems&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone     within a joint) &lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;Source-  &lt;a href="http://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/effects/index.html"&gt;Centers for Disease Control and Prevention&lt;/a&gt;&lt;br /&gt;          &lt;p&gt;*Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher;    obesity is   defined as a BMI of 30 or higher.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;There are other risk factors to consider.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The main three, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) guidelines for the assessment of overweight       involves:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/p&gt;        &lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;body mass index (BMI)&lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt; &lt;b&gt;waist circumference, and &lt;/b&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;&lt;b&gt;risk factors for diseases and conditions associated         with obesity.&lt;/b&gt; &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;        &lt;p&gt; Combining these with       information about your additional risk factors yields your risk for developing       obesity-associated diseases.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;So Health or Inches? I never miss a meal (that would signal to my body that it should store the food as fat because winter (starvation) is coming.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;I read labels! Go figure! Me? Reading labels. What my body is looking for is low carbs, high fiber, low calories, low sugar, and high protein. Forget the packaging, regardless of what it says. Except for breakfast, I will eat my fruit apart from lunch and dinner by 1- 2 hours.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;I totally enjoy, anticipate and celebrate a cheat day once a week, (it’s mandatory…yes?) followed by one day of Phase 1 eating principles. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;span style="font-size:130%;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: rgb(51, 204, 0); font-weight: bold;"&gt;How I see it...&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;span style="font-style: italic;"&gt;"&lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;My metabolism is different!&lt;/span&gt; Now, it efficiently burns the food I eat for energy instead of storing it as fat. Also &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;my pancreas has been re-trained &lt;/span&gt;and effectively releases insulin to burn the carbs I eat instead of so easily and readily storing them as fat."&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Now, unless you think I’m hard-core and eating perfectly. NOT!&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Remember these &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;three dietetic principles &lt;/span&gt;to stay forever lean:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Eat 1/2 gm of quality protein for every lb of lean body weight every day. These variations include the following examples: &lt;sup&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/sup&gt;&lt;/p&gt; &lt;ul class="WHBulletsOneLevel"&gt;&lt;li&gt;At the same BMI, women tend to have more body fat than men.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;At the same BMI, older people, on average, tend to have more body fat         than younger adults.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;li&gt;Highly trained athletes may have a high BMI because of increased         muscularity rather than increased body fatness. &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt; &lt;p&gt;It is also important to remember that &lt;b&gt;BMI is only one factor related to risk for disease&lt;/b&gt;. I finished our Ideal protein diet mid May and have maintained my goal weight now for 4 months. And now that many of our first clients are also approaching or are in Phase 4, I wanted to share my 2 big insights during the past 4 months. First big insight for me is:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;I'm a changed man! I now make better choices daily in what and how much I eat. I have gone from unconscious incompetence to conscious competence.&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;Before I was &lt;span style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;unconsciously incompetent&lt;/span&gt; when it came to dietetics- how to eat, lose weight and keep it off. I mean, I didn't really care what I ate, when I ate, how much I ate and didn't have a clue what I needed to do to lose the fat. Now, I know, I care and my life is different everyday.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Big insight #2 is...I'm a changed man! &lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;Wait. That sounds like the first big insight. Yeah, I know it sounds like it but what I mean this time is that my body and metabolism has changed too. My pancreas is now doing a much better job of utilizing the food I eat for energy/fuel and it is not storing almost every thing I eat as fat.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;I keep thinking after my cheat days (they are mandatory by the way) that I must have gained a couple of pounds. But no! My body is now able to metabolize the food in a balanced way.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Guess what this means for all our IP Tribe? You don't need to be afraid that you are going to gain back all your fat and more. Your thinking has changed and your body has changed. You will never be overweight again. Never! You are now living consciously aware and competent in dietetics. He's much too modest to post.&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Can you run 13 K every 3rd day and 25 K, once a week&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;And...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Still do the Ideal Protein Protocol?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Apparently, you can. Frank E. does. Every week!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Sure, he had to work up to i&lt;/span&gt;t but that's exactly what he's been up to.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;And...guess what he's down to?&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;As of this week, 50 lbs of fat too!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Weigh to go, Frank! (Pun intended)&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Now that also took him some time to do. I believe it was May 9th, he joined the IP Tribe. Interestingly, a couple of weeks ago, I got a phone call from Frank reporting in that his weight loss had stalled for just over a week, at 185-189.  (For those of you doing some mental Math here, let me help you out. He started at 232 lbs.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He hung in there (no pun intended) and now, the fat loss has kicked in again, and he's at 182 and has 12 more to go. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Funny story&lt;/span&gt; about Frank's weight loss. &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He came into my room (we work together) with a big grin on his face and said, "Guess what? I can't put my hands in my pockets anymore!"  Now, I thought this was actually bad news, I mean, with losing weight, everyone should at least be able to now fit their hands in their pockets, right, but not Frank, he couldn't anymore. So I asked why not? &lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;He smirked, gave me a short demonstration, and said, "Now that I've lost so much weight around my gut, my T-shirts hang further down and I can't get my hands in my pockets so easily."&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;I guess losing weight and &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;clothes fitting differently&lt;/span&gt; includes T-shirts for men! That is HUMUNGOUS when you consider that with your Ideal Protein protocol, you are only consuming 900- 1000 calories of food each day.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Can you guess&lt;/span&gt; what drinks were are drinking that add up to at least 450 calories a day??&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;If you said either sodas or beer or both.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;Go to the head of the class!&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;You are absolutely right.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;Here's the 2 things I get&lt;/span&gt; from this tribal trivia:&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;Being careful about what we drink will go a long way to keeping us from putting on the pounds to begin with and...&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;ul&gt;&lt;li&gt;When you get to the maintenance phase with Ideal Protein, minimizing the number sodas, beers, and fruit drinks you have each day will dramatically reduce your calories and will help keep those unwanted extra pounds off forever.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/li&gt;&lt;/ul&gt;&lt;div&gt;Popkin shares &lt;span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-weight: bold;"&gt;4 current, detrimental trends &lt;/span&gt; that have hurt our health and have led to weight gain and obesity. While washing my hands, I looked up in to the mirror and thought, gee, I like this mirror, it makes me look skinny. I then walked out and asked the salesman to throw in the mirror because it made me look thin. My daughter looked at me and said, "Mom, you ARE thin".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;My best friend just told me I not only looked thin, but toned! I told her that this program targets the fat but leaves the muscle. She is sold and will soon be on the program too.
